Sharon Mae Journeay, age 79, of Melvin, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, in Brady. Mae was born Nov. 23, 1944, in Childress, to Arthur Melvin Councilman and Juaneita Ray (Davis) Councilman. She grew up in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1963. She married Richard Journeay on June 21, 1963, in Odessa.

She and Richard moved to Brady in 1985. Mae and her sister, Kae, owned and operated Twins Spirit Shop in Brady from 1992 until they retired in 2010 and sold the business. Mae was one of those people who never met a stranger, and she would always put everyone else’s needs first. She had a passion for playing golf. She was a patient wife and was a great mother, sister and grandma.

Funeral services for Mae Journeay will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Reverend Phil Steinbach officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady. Friends may view Mae’s memorial video tribute and/or sign her online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com. Pallbearers will be Robbie Turk, J.T. Owens, Curtis Owens, Roy Short, Terry Virdell and Ted Archer.

Mae Journeay is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Richard Journeay of Melvin; sons, Richard Wayne Journeay of Odessa and Douglas Edward Journeay of Odessa; sister, Kae Ball of Melvin; grandchildren, Dylan Pierce, Cortney Journeay, Justin Journeay, Linda Mae Journeay and Cheyanne Shelton; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Brayden, Melody, Neita, Jaxton, Lilian, Jacqueline and Joshua; and nephews, Kayll Ball and Melvin Ball.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one great-grandchild, Alissa.
