Janette Calk, 74
September 11, 2024
Elizabeth Janette Calk passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sept. 6, 2024, in Fort Worth, at the age of 74.
Janette's celebration of life is scheduled for Sept. 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite B, 3344 White Settlement Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Close family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Janette's life.
Janette was born Sept. 20, 1949, in Willspoint, to Jewell and Doug. She graduated from C.F. Brewer High School in 1968, where she obtained her cosmetology license. Janette married Royce Calk in February 1968, and welcomed their daughter, Shellie, into their home in June of 1970.
Janette began her career as a cosmetologist, and later transitioned into managing apartments. She was the manager at Greenbriar Apartments in Fort Worth for approximately five years. While managing apartments, Janette fostered newborn children for Catholic Charities. Janette's family moved to Abilene, where she worked with Royce at Pyramid Drilling.
After her divorce, she relocated to Fort Worth and became a business manager in the petroleum field. In 1996, Janette moved to Brady and began working for New Horizons, a family centered agency. By 2004, she started work at Sagebrush Apartments as the property manager and recently retired with them in June of 2024.
Janette's family remembers how passionate she was about loving those around her. To know her was to know her love for you, tenfold. The family will absolutely miss her infectious laughter that could transform your entire day. Janette was always willing to help people whether you needed someone to talk to, a pat on the back, or even a dollar when she may have only had a penny. She wanted nothing more than to be hanging out with her family, around a warm fire bundled up in a coat or blanket.
Janette was preceded in death by her parents, William Douglas Covin, Jewell Covin and James (Smitty) Smithwick; and sisters, Shirley Shiflett and Melinda Benbow.
Janette is survived by her daughter, Shellie Gibbs; granddaughter, Haven Medders; great-granddaughters, Zella and Jonnie Medders; her sister, Dorthy Anderson; brother, James Covin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the friends and family that prayed for Janette and her family during the last two months.
