A tally in the win column on Friday night against Junction for the Lady Bulldogs was overshadowed by a tough loss last Tuesday night as the Mason Lady Punchers outscored the Brady team, 51-42. Brady hosted both teams with the season drawing nigh and easily handled the Lady Eagles from Junction last Friday night, 38-23. The game started out evenly in the first quarter, but a strong offensive surge coupled with some stiff defense put the Lady Dogs on top at the half with a seven-point lead. The two teams went point-for-point in the third before the defense kicked it up a notch and shut down the Eagle offense in the closing stanza. “This was a great win for us,” said coach Matt Odom. “The girls played some of their best defense which is what we needed to keep us in the hunt for a playoff spot.” The hunt took a wrong turn on Tuesday night, however, when the Lady Punchers visited from Mason. The visitors took the home game with a nine-point victory which was helped on Mason’s behalf by a hot streak from beyond the three-point line. “This was a tough loss for us,” said the coach. “We played as well as we have all year in the first quarter, but Mason got hot from the three-point line and we were unable to build much of a lead. “We never quit playing hard but we are now really looking forward to playing Blanco this Friday in what will be our last home game.” Score by quarters: Brady 7 12 6 13’38 Junction 7 5 6 5’23 Scorers for Brady: Veronica Salas 3, Red Patterson 7, Meme Patterson 4, Adrianna Villarreal 11, Kristin Rice 8, Prenessia Williams 5.
