Tracy Pitcox will lead a distinguished lineup of Texas authors at the 5th Annual “Menard Celebrates Texas Authors and Books,” Feb. 15 and 16. Pitcox, a KNEL disc jockey, will discuss and sign copies of his book, “Legendary Conversations with a Texas Disc Jockey.” Joining Pitcox will be Steven Fromholz, musician, song writer, book author and 2007 Texas Poet Laureate; Elmer Kelton, who will discuss and autograph his latest fiction releases and his autobiography, “Sandhills Boy: The Winding Trail of a Texas Author;” Ann Thompson, widow of the late Hank Thompson, who will discuss and sign copies of Hank’s autobiography, “My Side of Life”; James Peyton, internationally recognized chef, restaurant consultant and cookbook author (Peyton’s specialty is the cuisine of Northern Mexico). Two events are planned: the first, a champagne and beer reception and silent auction Friday, Feb. 15 at the ranch home of Jerry and Diana Baker. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. the gala reception will feature a substantial board with several recipes from Peyton’s four cookbooks. His books, and those of all event authors, will be available for purchase and signing during the evening. Event number two will be a celebration luncheon and formal book signing, scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb.. 16, at the Menard Country Club, featuring a menu designed and prepared by Chef Mike Hennessey and Sideoats Bakery and Cafe. This past year Hennessey was named “Best Restaurant Manager of the Year” by the Texas Restaurant Association and “Restaurateur of the Year” by the San Angelo Area Restaurant Association. After lunch, each author will address the diners and sign copies of their books. Books will be on sale at the Menard Country Club before and after the luncheon, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Admission is by reservation only. Admission price is a suggested donation of $50 per person for each event. A combination of one each for reception and luncheon is $90 per person.
