Dogs hold off Punchers in low scoring tilt, 38-31

In the beginning game of district play last Friday night in Mason, the Brady Bulldogs almost let one get between their fingers while defeating the Punchers, 38-31. “We were very lucky to get out with a win,” Brady coach Gary Jones said. “We were very sloppy and lazy as a team.” The Dogs took a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, and they held a 15-12 margin at halftime, and it was 25-18 after three periods. Each team scored 13 points in the fourth quarter. “We must learn to play hard for 32 minutes for us to reach our potential,” Jones said. “Hopefully, we will watch the video and learn from our mistakes and get better,” Jones said. Senior post Tyler Campbell paced the Bulldogs with 12 points. Sophomore Mackenzie Hirt added 9 points. Other Bulldog scorers were Jon Langseth 5, Cody Melcer 4, Brantley King 4 and Garrison Jones 4. Brady will be at Blanco Tuesday (tonight) and will have their first district game here Friday night against Sonora. The Bulldogs are having one of their best seasons in a number of years. They are 15-5 and 1-0 in District 8-2A play. Score by quarters: Brady 6 9 10 13’38 Mason 2 10 6 13’31
