The shooting woes creeped up on the Lohn Lady Eagles as they were defeated 56-33 by the Paint Rock Maidens in Paint Rock on Dec. 4. This was the third meeting between the two 1A basketball teams. The loss dropped the Lady Eagles’ record to 0-9. ‘We had a really good game with the exception that Paint Rock is un-defeated for the year,’ said Lohn Lady Eagle coach Alex Sanchez. The Lady Eagles started out good making 11 points in the first quarter, but the Maidens were definitely on their game as they scored a game high of 20 points. The Ladies lost some momentum in the second quarter scoring only six points and the Maidens kept up their shooting pace with 15 points leading 35-17 at the half. ‘Offensively, we looked really well moving the ball, penetrating, and shooting,’ said Sanchez. ‘Defensively, our girls played a really good game. Our lack of size hurt us.’ The pace was slower in the third quarter as both teams scored eight points each. The Maidens continued to lead at the end of that quarter 43-25. In the final quarter Lohn again added eight points, but the Maidens dropped in 13 for a 56-33 win. Lohn freshman Briana Gonzales led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 12 points. She was followed in scoring by Amy Smith with 11 points, Chelsea Tuley 9, and Whitney Jordan one free throw. Also, putting out a lot of good effort in the game was Courtney Hemphill.
