Robert J. Winters, of Austin, born March 6, 1936, in Johnson City, N.Y., died Dec. 8, 2007. He passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was the youngest child of Louis and Anna Winters. He graduated from Johnson City High School in New York and Niagara University where he earned his Chemical Engineering degree. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Army. Bob met and married his wife, Shannon, in 1962. He worked for IBM in New York and Texas from 1963-1992. Bob was a Catholic and a member of St. Albert the Great Parish. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shannon, four children and seven grandsons, Kathy Winters and sons, Ryan and Hayden; Laura Dunn, husband, Lynn, and son, James; Lisa Fible, husband, Ron, and son, Ross; and William Winters, wife, Cleo, and sons, Madoc, Nate and Reid. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Latino, and a brother, David Winters, of New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William, a sister, Dorothy, and his grandson, Alex Dunn. The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Ream, Dr. David Morris, Dr. Jeff Whitehill, Cheryl Hurtado, CNS, Joan and Betty and all the other nurses associated with Austin Heart for giving him 15 years of life after his initial diagnosis prognosis of five years. A visitation for Bob will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be held Thursday, Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. A private burial will be held at Assumption Cemetery in Austin.
