Rochelle’s varsity boys basketball team suffered their second loss of the pre-district season Tuesday night as the Veribest Falcons flew by, capturing a narrow 64-60 victory over the Hornets in overtime. “We played a really good Veribest team that had most everybody back from the team last year,” said Rochelle Coach Scott Edmondson. “They won a hard-fought game in overtime. We were in foul trouble early with our big guys. Billy Rainwater played a great defensive game, and Korey Kunc put in 11 points in the second quarter to help take the lead at halftime. “We missed a couple of opportunities to win the game late, and they capitalized on our mistakes. We had a hard time stopping their number one post who scored 27 points for the night. “We had a lot of turnovers which is common this early in the season. We have to get better hanging on to the ball and making free throws. If we improve in these two areas, we can put a whole lot more points on the board.” Individual stats: Bryn Allgood, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, 15 points; Jerimy Allgood, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal; Billy Rainwater, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 10 points; Hunter Stuart, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 13 points; Jeramie Flint, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 points; Korey Kunc, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 13 points; Matthew Tyson, 2 rebounds, 7 points. The varsity Hornets move to 4-2 this season and will travel to Lohn this week to play in the Lohn invitational tournament.
