Wanda June Rice, 81, of Rochelle, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, in Lubbock. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Leatherwood Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. at Leatherwood Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Barr officiating. Burial will follow at Rochelle Cemetery. She was born June 9, 1926, in Rochelle to Jim and Wilma Louise (Morrison) Mitchell. She married Jerrell Rice Dec. 21, 1946. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a teacher’s aide at Rochelle ISD. She was a member of the Rochelle Study Club and First Baptist Church of Rochelle. She is survived by a son, Brent Rice of San Angelo; two daughters, Jerrie Wiley and husband, Milford, of Ballinger and Susan Gilpin of Lubbock; a sister-in- law, Ila Mitchell of Brady; five grandchildren, Randy Barfield and wife, Amy, and Michal Anne Rice, both of Lubbock, Justin Wiley and wife, Michele of Smithville, Blake Wiley of Dallas and Ashley Abilez Roady and husband, Ryne, of Houston; four great- grandchildren, Jaxson Kyle Wiley, Cooper James Rice, Brandon Barfield and Samantha Barfield; three nieces, Donna Gartman and husband, Jack, of Brady, Kim Godwin and husband, Skip, of Kempp and Mary Rose and husband, Beau, of Monahans; an uncle, Ben Morrison of Rochelle; a special friend, Sarah Adams of Brady. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Kenneth “Tootsie” Mitchell and a son-in-law, Darrell Gilpin. Pallbearers will be Randy Barfield, Justin Wiley, Blake Wiley and Ryne Roady. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rochelle ISD Library, Rochelle Baptist Church or the Rochelle Cemetery Association.
