New collaboration offers more access to health insurance for local businesses

The recent formation of the Texas Midwest Chamber Cooperative, a collaboration of Chambers of Commerce in the Texas Midwest Community Network and FirstCare Health Plans, is offering businesses in the Texas Midwest access to health insurance discounts previously available only for large employer groups.’ The Texas Midwest Chamber Cooperative is the first cooperative of its kind in Texas, bringing together multiple Chambers of Commerce to serve Abilene and rural communities in the region. The innovative collaboration takes advantage of new state legislation allowing businesses to form Health Group Cooperatives. Through cooperatives, business members are able to join together to gain access to discounted premiums and flexible plan designs typically only available for large employers. As members of their local Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Midwest Chamber Cooperative, businesses will have better access to affordable health plan benefits for their employees. Participating businesses may save as much as 40 percent. ‘The Texas Midwest Chamber Cooperative is the result of the partnership between the Texas Midwest Community Network and Hendrick Health System, a supporter and partner of the Texas Midwest Community Network and an owner of FirstCare Health Plans. ‘The plan is available to employers in the following counties: Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Comanche, Concho, Eastland, Erth, Fisher, Hamilton, Haskell, Jones, Knox, McCulloch, Mills, Mitchell, Nolan, Runnels, Scurry, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor and Throckmorton.
