Gene Douglas Luttrell, 80, of Rochelle, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, in Rochelle. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 29, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with brother Keith Simpson officiating. Burial followed at East Sweden Cemetery. He was born July 8, 1927, in Sonora to Oda Hardin and Addison Luttrell. He was married to Viola Shortner, Oct. 4, 1980 in East Sweden. He preached the gospel for 17 years in Colorado and Texas and was an originator of the Rochelle Volunteer Fire Department. He was an auto mechanic for many years, ran heavy equipment on local ranches and was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Viola of Rochelle; children, Jeanne Carter and husband, Jesse, of New Mexico, Dellayne Langston and husband, Dean, of Oklahoma, Fred Baker and wife, Mindy, of Austin, Sandra Baird and husband, Mike, of Mountain Home, Idaho, David Baker of Brownwood, Linda Newsom and husband, Dan, of Rochelle; a brother; two sisters; numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his biological parents, his adopted parents, a son, Mark and three brothers. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rochelle Volunteer Fire Department.
