Hope from the Heart draws $350 challenge from Brady Kiwanis Club

Hope from the Heart coordinators Wendy Jones, Michelle Derrick, LeGrace DeFiore, Cindy Rice, Krysten Rice (pictured here, left to right) and Selene Schroeder, Cynthia Quinn and Kelli Jacoby pitched in Saturday, Sept. 15 to help the Brady Kiwanis Club in their weekly aluminum can recycling effort. The ladies received a challenge from the Kiwanis that will match up to $350 in donations from other local civic groups. Hope from the Heart assists cancer patients and their families with room and travel expenses not otherwise reimbursed by insurance, the American Cancer Society and other sources of help. The Kiwanis Club of Brady is currently in its third year of aluminum can recycling and has purchased over 100,000 pounds of cans locally during that time, returning over $40,000 into the local economy through can sales. Additionally, over the past two years, the Brady Kiwanis Club has awarded college scholarships to five area high school seniors, contributed to the Children’s Miracle Network, supported the McCulloch County Junior Livestock Association and local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. Also, the group has contributed to the annual school supply drive, Brady Middle School sanctioned trips to Washington D.C., Civil Air Patrol and a number of other local youth activities.
