Blinn College judging team finishes second at national competition

Katie Kidd of Brady was a member of the Blinn College team that finished second in the junior college division at the 61st National Barrow Show annual swine judging contest held Sept. 10 in Austin, Minn. The team, coached by Brant Poe, scored 3,067 points out of a possible 3,250, just three points behind first-place Black Hawk East Junior College of Kewanee, Ill. Other Blinn team members are: Ben Cammack of Marion, C.A. Jones of Sunray, Amy Draznin of Ingram, Caleb Wendt of Needville, Josh Brockman of Giddings and Lindsay Swick of Franklin. Texas A&M University won first place in the senior college division. The winning team in each level of judging was awarded according to points accumulated in the contest. This year’s contest attracted 70 teams and 379 participants. The competition is held in conjunction with the four-day barrow show and is co-sponsored by Hormel Foods Corp. and the National Association of Swine Records. Blinn College is a public two-year college with campuses in Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg and Sealy. The judging team hails from the Brenham campus.
