J.R. Cawyer, 87, of San Angelo, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at a local care center. Visitation with the family was held Thursday, Aug. 30, 6-8 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Southgate Church of Christ. Graveside service with military honors will be at 3:30 p.m. at Cox Cemetery in Mercury. He was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Mercury, to John Ray and Annie Ruth Cawyer. He retired from the United States Air Force as a master sergeant after 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Air Force Sgt.’s Association and Southgate Church of Christ. He married Sadie Cox Nov. 25, 2000, in Brady. Survivors include his wife, Sadie Cawyer of San Angelo; two grandchildren, Michael Batts of Chicago, Ill. and Brian Batts of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, James Cawyer of Garland and a sister, June Drake of Duncanville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Beth Batts.
