Crime Stoppers asking for public input on vandalism

Crime Stoppers is seeking information concerning a number of acts of vandalism which have occurred within the last six to eight weeks. As a result of the recent vandalism, several broken windows have been reported to Bible Baptist Church located on Elm Street, and graffiti markings have been identified on area school dumpsters, at the park around area of the dam, on an exterior brick wall at New Song Christian Fellowship and on the business signs at Bealls and Dollar General. According to Jim Wright, a local Crime Stoppers representative, some of the markings resemble gang signs, such as 956, 951, 210, etc., denoting an area code or location in which the vandals reside. “These signify to a gang what area you are from; however, the police department says that they don’t ‘at this time’have any information of organized gang activity in Brady. It may be people just passing through, but again, it may not.” Wright added that defacing school property or churches is a state felony and Crime Stoppers will pay a reward for information that leads to an arrest or indictment of any individual involved in these recent crimes of vandalism. To report an anonymous tip, callers can call the local Crime Stoppers line at 456-TIPS (8477) or the local police department at 597-2121.
