Brady Golf Course hosted the West Texas Junior Champions Tour July 11 with some Brady youths taking home medals. The West Texas Junior Champions Tour began in the Summer of 1999 and has grown from 13 tournaments to 45 over the past six years. Brady Golf Course was one of the first 13 courses to accommodate the junior golfers. “The tournaments are held in June and July, and the members travel as far West as Pecos, as far East as Llano, South to Sonora and as far North as Snyder,” stated Steve Alexander, coordinator of the WTJCT. “There are 25 tournaments per summer with the Tour Championship Tournament to be played at the San Angelo Riverside Golf Course Aug. 2-3.” The age groups are divided up with the six to eight co-ed and the nine-11 boys playing nine holes and the additional groups of 12-13 boys, 14-15 boys, 16-18 boys and 15-18 girls competing in 18 holes of golf. “Garrett Smith of Sonora shot an outstanding round of golf on the Brady course with a final score of 68 to take home the gold medal in the 12-13 boys age division,” said Alexander. Placing in each division were: age six to eight co-ed division,first place, Caleb Ledezma, Brady; second, Christian Ledezma of Brady; third, Nathan Miller, Brady; fourth, Isaiah Lira of Sonora;and fifth, Nathaniel Childress, Sonora. In the nine to 11-year-old boys division, Jacob Rodriquez of Buchanan Dam won first, Bear Bailey of Abilene, second and Jordan Webb of Llano, third. In the 12 to 13- year-old boys, Garrett Smith of Sonora took the gold medal with a score of 68, Janzen McBride, also of Sonora, placed second with a score of 87, and Jonathan Burgess of Menard, third shooting an 88. In the 14 to 15-year-old boys division, Bradyite Chris Garner won first with a score of 78, followed by Caleb Gonzales of Sonora in second with an 82 and Charles Torres of San Antonio in third. In the 15 to 18-year-old girls, Lindsey Alexander of Haslet placed first and Esther Nicks of Cisco, second. In the 16 to 18-year-old boys division, Bradyite Josh Fore shot a 74 to win the tournament, Jonathan Gonzales of Llano came in second and Brady Little of Abilene, third. Other Brady area youths who participated were Seth Bozeman, Chaney McBee and Trevor McBee The West Texas Junior Champions tour also sponsors a scholarship program for members.
