The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, July 3, at noon at the Heart of Texas Depot Restaurant with President Mike Schaffner presiding. Nickie Bright was the guest of Tim Jones. Connie Locklear had her granddaughter as her guest. Schaffner led a discussion on how we could improve our club. He began by giving a brief resume of other clubs: i.e. the first club in Chicago. He talked about how it helped the City of Chicago by building toilets along the downtown streets. This club needs to become aware of the needs in Brady and try to help our city. Currently we have 26 active members in our club. The $2 bill was won by Clair Whitsell for being the first to say that there are six lines in the Rotary Grace. H The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, July 10, at noon at the Heart of Texas Depot Restaurant with President Mike Schaffner presiding. Mitch Van Horn reported that he took Student Rotarian, Mau, to Austin Tuesday morning to catch a plane to his home in Mexico. Program Chairman, Jim Ricks, introduced Steve Dyer, Public Affairs Representative with the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). Dyer gave the club an update on the water situation of the rivers of Texas, especially in nearby areas. He stated that all major river basins are full and that they are able to manage the river flow. This certainly overcame the recent drouth. We have just seen the wettest record in this area. The LCRA works in partnership with other units to avoid flood problems. Dyer then informed us that the Buchanan Dam was completed in 1937. The $2 bill was won by Van Horn for being the first to say that 134 degrees in California is a United States record. Program Chairman for the July 17 meeting is Tom Swearingen.
