Leopoldo Cervantes, 92, of Brady, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, in Brady. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Father Joseph Vathalloor officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Leatherwood Memorial Chapels. Born July 14,1914, in Brady, to Romula Luis Cervantes and Julia (Mireles) Cervantes, he married Hortencia Villarreal Dec. 27, 1959, in San Angelo. He worked as a rancher, a machine operator at Roddie Wool and Brady Combing Plant, a social worker for CTO, a translator for the combing plant and worked at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth for several years. He was the owner of Cervantes Grocery Store for over 25 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, was a member of the Lions Club and served on the Brady School Board, the HOT Memorial Hospital Building Committee, the city council, the chamber board and was a board member of Central Texas Opportunities. Survivors include his wife of Brady; two daughters, Norma Hagen and husband, Mike, and Mary Alice Rodriguez and husband, Gene, all of Brady; a brother, Nepolean Cervantes of Red Oak; three sisters, Doris Delgado and husband, Eddie, of Fort Worth, Julia Peterson and husband, Pete, of Arlington, and Theresa Wise and husband, Jim, of Baytown; a sister- in-law, Mary Lou Cervantes, of San Angelo; grandchildren, Amanda, Jacob and Michaela Hagan, Jim, Linda and Shane Rodriguez; and a great-grandson, Isaiah Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters. Memorials may be made to The Haven or to Helping Hands.
