Track, tennis athletes fail in attempt to reach state

The Brady High School athletic season was wrapped up last Friday and Saturday with Region I track meet and tennis matches. Only one track member reached the finals on Saturday, and that was Nick Kwast, a senior hurdler. Athletic director Glen Jones said that Kwast reached the finals in the 110-meter high hurdles, but finished in seventh place. “Nick had a great race going in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, but he hit the fourth hurdle and stumbled,” he said, “and he finished back in the pack.” Jones said that some “personal bests” were attained at the meet. “Our mile relay teams, both boys and girls, ran their top times of the season, but both were not good enough to reach the finals. “The boys ran a 3:33, and the girls a 4:15. Krysta Demere ran her top time of the year in the 400-meter dash,” he said. Jones pointed out that most of the track participants are sophomores and freshmen. Cody Melcer, a junior tennis player, was fourth in boys’ singles. “He won his first two matches, but lost his next two,” Jones said.
