Cervantes completes basic training at Camp Pendleton

Pfc. M. Brady Cervantes, on March 4, finished his basic training at San Diego and infantry training at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He enlisted on July 24, 2006, and has been assigned to the 2nd Marine Division stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Because of his high rating and his qualifying as expert rifleman with very high marks, Pfc. Cervantes has been offered and has been accepted as a walk-on into the Scout & Sniper Division of the U.S. Marine Corps. This is an elite group of only 365 marines throughout the corps and an honor to be offered and accepted to a Marine fresh out of Boot Camp. He will be in intensive training in Virginia. The Marines attached to the 1-8 at Camp Lejeune are scheduled to deploy to Iraq the early part of September. Pfc. Brady Cervantes was named for his hometown by his father, Sam Cervantes, who was in Brady in 1944. He is the grandson of Marcos and Lile (Castro) Cervantes, and the great-grandson of R.L.Cervantes and Eduardo Castro. His family ties include Leo and Tencha Cervantes (U.S. Army Normandy landing in World War II). He operated Leo’s Grocery, in Brady. Other family members include Norma, Mike, Amanda, Jacob and Mikala Hagan and Mary Alice, Liana and Gene Gonzales, Ed & Ninfa Castro (U.S Air Force/ Korean War).
