Blanco drops Lady Dawg JV in closer

Brady JV 2 vs. Blanco JV 9 By Coach Sarah Smith Pitcher Chelsea Hail faced 23 batters during our last game of the season against Blanco JV. She threw 38 strikes, 40 balls and struck out three batters in the effort. Defensively the Bulldogs had 12 put out’s, three assists and five fielding, throwing and catching errors. Offensively the Lady Bulldogs had one earned run, two singles (Hail and Meme Patterson) four bases on balls, one batter hit by a pitch and three runs on errors. As we ventured out to play our last game against Blanco we were blessed by Mother Nature’s beautiful scenery. The roadsides were blanketed with bluebonnets and other wildflowers, and the drive alongside the small river from Stonewall to Blanco was an unexpected added bonus. Our game, however, did not have the same peace and beauty that I had just experienced. The Dawgs had a struggle with their defense accumulating four of their five errors in the first inning allowing Blanco JV to score five runs. We struck out swinging our first at bat. The second inning was much the same with another error and more of their runs scored. The JV Lady Dawgs finally pulled it together in the third and fourth innings going three up, three down in both. They finished the game strong with good attitudes, good teamwork and with the confidence they were lacking in the beginning. Although we were hoping to find the girls more games to play, we finished our season 11-3 overall playing a total of 14 games with only one cancellation. At the end of our final game I asked the girls what they thought they learned most about the season. They responded with ‘team work, respect for each other, playing with intensity and determination and most of all they gained experience that will help them grow for next season.’ It has been my privilege to coach such a wonderful group of girls. I look forward to watching them grow and excel in all they set out to do.
