Calvin Mitchel, 79

Calvin Lee Mitchel of Brady passed away on April 6, 2007, in San Antonio at the age of 79 years 11 months and 22 days. The funeral service was held on Monday, April 9, 2007 at Heritage Funeral Home in Brady.’The Reverends Blake O’Dell and Ray Ash officiated. Calvin was born on April 27, 1927, to Robert and Mary Ruth (Pierce) Mitchel in Salt Gap, Texas. He married Margaret Leach on July 2, 1949, in Brady.’ Living in the area for most of his life, Calvin attended school in Lohn and Melvin and was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in Germany.’ Calvin worked for Loadcraft for several years then worked and retired from the City of Brady as the supervisor of parks and cemeteries.’After retirement, he was a funeral assistant with Heritage Funeral Home and was a Deacon Emeritus of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Mitchel of Brady; one son, Larry Mitchel and wife, Randy, of Eldorado; one daughter, Linda Ewing and husband, David, of Arlington; two brothers, Buford Mitchel and wife, Betty, of Rockdale and Pete Mitchel of McCamey; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Mitchel of Midland and Olna B. Mitchel of Harker Heights; three grandsons, Ty Mitchel and wife, Lynnette, and Todd Mitchel and wife, Danielle, all of Oxford, Kansas and Lance Mitchel of Houston; one granddaughter, Victoria Box of Brady; one great- granddaughter, Payton Box of Brady; and several nieces and nephews.’ He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leslie Mitchel, Cecil Mitchel, Basil Mitchel and Ralph Mitchel; and four sisters, Mavis Nance, Eva Shuffield, Christine Sanders and Janie Garner. Pallbearers were Keith Mitchel, Dennis Snodgrass, Royce Lewis, Kenny Garner, David Mitchel and Curtis Mitchel. Honorary pallbearers were Winifred Short, James Patton, Jack Goff, Herbert Goff, Bill Tuckness, Harold Tuckness, Norman Chew, J.B. Lewis, Lonnie Holloway, Ronnie Holloway, Randy Holloway, Jerry Laird and Tom Bishop. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or to the charity of choice.’
