Joe Hernandez, 73, of Burnet, and formerly of Brady, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, in Bertram. His body has been donated to science. A memorial service has been planned for Saturday, April 14 at 3 p.m. at the Victory Baptist Church in Burnet, 4150 Hwy. 29 East. He was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Brady, to Jose G. and Carolina Hernandez. He was a graduate of Brady High School and attended St. Mary’s University where he majored in political science and international relations. He later did further studies at the University of Texas at Austin. At the time of his retirement, he had been associated with a tri-county Head Start program for some 25 years. He is survived by two brothers, Ed Hernandez of Brady and R.G. (Bill) Hernandez of Corpus Christi; a sister, Mariana Hernandez, of New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Amando and Paul Hernandez. An avid reader and music lover, over the years he had amassed a huge collection of sound recordings and a library of classical books. Much of his collection will be donated to libraries in the Burnet area.
