Help observe National Ag Day March 21

Dear Editor: As a member of Hill Country CattleWomen, I would like to take this opportunity to suggest that we all join to celebrate National Ag Day March 21. It falls during National Ag Week which is March 18-26. It is a day to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture and to realize the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives. Our organization is a group of women whose purposes are: (1) to maintain and build demand for beef products that satisfy customer needs and (2) to promote a positive image of the cattle industry. We are active in beef promotion, education, and legislation. We serve as ambassadors of the beef industry and assure consumers that beef is a safe and wholesome product. CattleWomen share a common interest in the beef industry. We share friendships and support each other during the challenges and successes that being involved in the beef industry presents. We are ranchers, teachers and industry affiliates. Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis. But, too few people truly understand this contribution. This is particularly the case in our schools, where students may only be exposed to agriculture if they enroll in related vocational training. By building awareness, the Agriculture Council of America is encouraging young people to consider career opportunities in agriculture. Each American farmer or rancher feeds more than 144 people’a dramatic increase from 25 people in the 1960s. Quite simply, American agriculture is doing more and doing it better. As the world population soars, there is an even greater demand for the food and fiber produced in the United States. If you are grateful for the cheapest and safest food supply in the world’thank a rancher or farmer. Sincerely, Cookie Underwood Member Hill Country CattleWomen
