The 62nd annual Brady-Heart of Texas Relays is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24 with 14 teams signed up for the opening track meet of the season. Brady boys’ coach David Wells, in his first year here, said that some of the top teams entered are Junction, Ozona, Hamilton, Comfort, Ingram, Comanche and Brady. “It looks like we’ll have nice weather for the meet,” Wells said. Coaching the girls teams is Larry Hoelscher, whose two teams were both winners last season. It’s been cold and wet for the past three Brady Relays. Longtime starter Joe James of Brownwood will return to be the starter, and Dan Cook will handle the gun in the Brady Junior High meet on Thursday evening. He’ll also back up James, who is a former coach and now an athletic equipment salesman. James is also a longtime friend of the director of the meeting, Brady athletic director Glen Jones. The meet will be run-off in four divisions, as usual, with boys varsity and junior varsity and girls varsity and junior varsity teams. Other schools that have indicated that they will be here include: Grape Creek, Harper, Victory Life Academy of Brownwood, Mullin, Santa Anna, Panther Creek, and San Saba.
