Area win boosts Lady Hornets into regional quarter final round

The Rochelle Lady Hornets defeated San Perlita, 52 -27, in the area round of the 2007 basketball playoffs Friday night in Poteet. With the win, the Lady Hornets advanced to the Regional Quarter Finals and will play Knippa Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Fredericksburg. Against San Perlita, the Lady Hornets led, 6-5, at the end of the first quarter and outscored San Perlita, 13-6, to take a 19-11 lead at halftime. “It was a low scoring first half,” said coach Jym Dennis, “and we never got into any kind of rhythm.” The third quarter saw both teams score six points a piece to make the score 25-17 going into the fourth quarter. “Our offense finally woke up in the fourth quarter, scoring 27 points to finish off San Perlita. I was glad our defense played well. When you struggle to score, you had better be able to keep the other team from scoring. “It was a great win for our girls. We finally got over the hump and won a playoff game. I feel we match up with Knippa pretty good. We will have to contain their two scores and play better on offense to win.” The Varsity Lady Hornets move to an overall 25-5 season record. Scorers for the Lady Hornets were: Amber Gossett 4, Becca Willmann 6, Tiffany Cook 2, Roz Roueche 11, Heather Sanders 10 and Bonnie Richardson 19.
