Lometa hammers Hornets in district opener, 61-16

The Lometa Hornets ripped the Rochelle Hornets in a district six-man football game at Rochelle last Friday night, 61-16. The visitors jumped off to a 26-8 first quarter lead and added 12 points in the second period to go up, 40-8 at halftime. Rochelle’s only score in the first half was a 40-yard pass from Luis Gomez to Clayton Williams. Romano Vargas kicked the PAT. Each team scored eight points in the third quarter with Rochelle’s coming on a 43-yard pass from Gomez to Williams. Romano added the two points by kick. Lometa closed out the scoring with a 13-point output in the final period. The Rochelle Hornets racked up 213 yards in total offense. They got 90 yards rushing on 27 attempts and completed six of 18 passes for 123 yards. Rochelle coach Tommy Meredith cited Wayne Flint, Bo Stuart, Gage Rose and Gomez for their efforts on the defensive side of the ball. Rochelle will be at Brookesmith for Friday night’s ball game.
