Rochelle Study Club recognized for 70th Anniversary

Members of the Rochelle Study Club and one guest’gathered at the Rochelle Community Center on October 6 for the scheduled October meeting.’ A fall theme was used for decorations and a large variety of goodies were served buffet style by hostesses Pat Baker, Susan Barden, and Dolores Barton with assistance by Sara Myers. The scheduled program on women’s health was cancelled because the speaker, Cynthia Quinn, had another commitment and was unable to attend. A business meeting was called to order by club president Jane Bohls.’ Minutes of the September meeting were read by secretary Linda Roesler and approved.’ Treasurer Betty Meyer gave a report which will be filed. Club Federation advisor Jo Ann Dickson presented a congratulatory certificate signed by the international president, Judy Lutz recognizing the Rochelle Study Club’s 70th anniversary.’ Mrs. Dickson reported on the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs Fall Board Meeting which was held in Austin on September 25 thru 27 which she attended. President Bohls announced that a nominating committee will be chosen from the floor at the November 3 meeting. A copy of the annual proposed budget was distributed to each member present to study.’ Discussion was tabled until the November meeting. A new trustee to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Doris Bryson was elected.’ Margaret Draycott was nominated by club treasurer Betty Meyer and was elected by acclamation.’ She will serve the unexpired term of Mrs. Bryson. Letters of thanks from the club’s homemaking award recipient Sarah Smith, from the Richard’s Memorial Library, from New Horizons Home for Children, from Evridge’s Department Store, and from members of Winters Literary and Service Club were read by secretary Roesler. A request for any extra help that the club could give to New Horizons was related.’ The request stated that the State funds which will be received this year will be reduced by $415,000.’ No action was taken by the club at this time. Plans were formulated for the fund raising lunch to be served’to the district meeting of the Retired Teachers’on October 20.’The meeting will’be held at the Rochelle Community Center.’ In charge of the plans are Charlotte McDonald’s Fund Raising Committee.’ Members include Gloria Barr, Vonnie McCain, and Betty Jo Myers.’ Other club members will provide food. It was announced that the Heart of Texas District Fall Board Meeting will be held on October 18 at the Mason Library.’ The host club is Mason Bluebonnet Study Club.’ Reservations are being taken by district treasurer Betty Meyer.’ A fee of $12 covers registration and meal.’ The meeting starts at 9 a.m. and will conclude around 1:30 p.m.’ A silent auction will be held to benefit the Fisk- Perry Scholarship fund. Linda Roesler’s sister Carol Easley from Denver, Colorado was welcomed as a guest. Attending the meeting were members Pat Baker, Dolores Barton, Jane Bohls, Jo Ann Dickson, Margaret Draycott, Betty Edmondson, Valire Engdahl, Eloise Ficke, Vonnie McCain, Charlotte McDonald, Betty Meyer, Sara Myers, Kate Porter, Linda Roesler, Susan Barden, Marguerite Stroeck, and Sue Glidden. The next meeting will be held on November 3.’ The program will be on McCulloch County history presented by Billy Mohr.’ Hostesses will be Jane Bohls, Betty Bourbon, and Glenna Bryson-Reno.
