Brady 7th go 1-0-1 with Llano; head to Marble Falls Tuesday

The Brady Middle School football teams hosted the Llano Yellowjackets Thursday night and in the seventh grade games, Brady came away with a no loss record. In the first game of the night with rain clouds threatening, the 7th B team battled back and forth with Llano, but neither team made it to the end zone and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Dustin Williams was Brady’s leading rusher and Daniel DeLuna received praise from the coach for his defensive efforts. In the 7th A team game, a strong first half and a two-point PAT were the difference for Brady as they sent the ‘Jackets packing, 14- 12. The scoring for both teams in the first quarter came on big plays. Llano opened things up with a 30-yard strike, but the Brady defense held true on the PAT attempt. Brady answered the Llano score with one of their own which came on a 49-yard run by Laret Lawrence. Lawrence also tacked on the PAT which put the Bulldogs up 8-6. The Brady defense stepped things up in the second quarter and held the Llano squad scoreless. On offense, the Bulldogs managed what would be the game-winning score in the second quarter when Lawrence again punched it into the end zone from 10 yards out. This time, the conversion failed, but Brady held a confidence-building 14-6 lead at the half. The Bulldog ground game was complimented by their defense throughout the night. On offense, Brady managed seven first downs on 27 rushes for 154 yards. The stingy defense held Llano to four first downs and only 91 yards rushing coupled with 10 passing yards. Both teams turned the ball over two times Defensive standouts for Brady were Lonnie Williams and Isaiah Conrad each with six tackles and Eli Conrad and Josh Aguilar each with four tackles. Offensively, Isaiah Conrad posted 71 yards rushing and Lawrence added 61. Ruben Resendez added 12 yards on the ground. The seventh graders will travel to Marble Falls for their next game today beginning at 5 p.m. Score by quarters: Brady 8 6 0 0’14 Llano 6 0 6 0’1
