Stiff Bulldog defense stops Comfort 7th short

After getting a slow start Thursday in Comfort, the Brady seventh grade A football team put together a solid run-based offense coupled with a stingy defense to give the Bulldogs a solid 36-16 victory on the road. Comfort opened up the scoring in the first quarter with a 20 yard run and tacked on a two-point conversion to take a 8-0 lead. The home team’s defense held true in the first quarter and kept Brady scoreless until the second quarter when Brady’s Isaiah Conrad broke free on a 55-yard run to put the Bulldogs on the board. The conversion was no good and Brady trailed 8-6. Comfort answered Brady’s big play with one of their own as their offense pulled off a 61- yard run with a completed two-point conversion to build the lead once again. With time running down in the first half, Brady closed the gap with a six-yard run by Josh Aguilar and the Bulldogs went into halftime trailing 16-12. Halftime adjustments proved to be the difference in the game for Brady as they came out in the third quarter and moved the ball down the field and scored on a one- yard run by Conrad. The conversion was good and the Bulldogs took control of the game. The Bulldog defense capped off each and every drive the Comfort team attempted in the third quarter and forced them into fourth down situations. The trend continued in the fourth as the Brady defense held true while the offense managed two more touchdowns, the first coming on a one-yard run by Conrad and the second coming on a three-yard run by Larat Lawrence with a Jordon Bara conversion. Defensive standouts on the night were Conrad with six tackles, Eli Conrad with five tackles and a blocked punt, Aguilar with five tackles, Daniel McCormick and Larat Lawrence with four each. The Bulldogs racked up 202 yards of offense on 31 carries with one pass completion for 10 yards. They edged Comfort in first downs 8 to 5 and were plus one in the turnover category by recovering one of two Comfort fumbles. The young Doggies will face Llano Thursday night with game times scheduled to being at 4:30 p.m. Score by quarters: Brady 0 12 8 16’36 Comfort 8 8 0 0’16
