Gordon’s strength too much for Rochelle team

Rochelle’s Hornets scored their only touchdown of the night in the first quarter as Gordon roared to a 58-8 victory in Rochelle last Friday night. The Hornet’s only TD came on a 60-yard run by Trey Clevenger. Romano Vargas kicked the extra points. The Longhorns of District 10-A six-man, scored 22 points in the first quarter and added 30 in the second to leave Rochelle at halftime, 52-8. Gordon closed the game early in the third quarter. The Horns are favored to win their district. “They have a real solid ball club,” Rochelle coach Tommy Meredith said. “They have 12 seniors. Their size and quickness were too much for us.” “I thought our guys played as well as could be expected. I thought we learned a great deal by playing them. They are ranked fifth in the state,” the coach said. Roy Little, Bo Stuart, Tanner Stuart, Rex Stidham each had three tackles for the Hornets. Gordon rushed 12 times for 233 yards and completed two of five passes for an additional 36 yards for a grand total of 269 yards.
