Accident victim moved to urban hospital for surgery

Two separate accidents that occurred Tuesday morning left one elderly woman dead and a young man with serious injuries to his leg. In the first accident that was reported approximately 6:45 a.m., Mrs. Lois Striegler, 72, was killed when she was struck by a truck while walking on County Road 504 near Pear Valley. The truck was driven by Jose G. Madrano of Eden. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Lohn Baptist Church and is survived by several family members including Bradin Striegler of Melvin. In the second accident that occurred around 8 a.m. on West 17th Street in Brady, 21- year-old Cody Morgan was sent to the hospital with a partial leg amputation just above the ankle. Morgan was standing on the back of a City of Brady trash truck when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by Fletcher Fields of Brady. Morgan was flown by helicopter to San Angelo where he was rushed into emergency surgery to reattach his foot. According to sources close to the family, the initial surgery was moderately successful, but several more surgeries are scheduled in coming days at a larger urban hospital. Morgan is married to Mindy and they have two children ages 4 months and two years.
