Rochelle takes session from Paint Rock

Rochelle’s Hornets handled Paint Rock handily Friday night in a pre-season scrimmage, defeating the Indians, 7-1. They open the season Friday at home against Zephyr. The JV Hornets won over the Lometa Hornets in a scrimmage, 2-1. The varsity Hornets racked up 338 yards in total offense, 200 rushing and 138 passing, while limiting Paint Rock to only 38 yards in total offense. Eddie Teague ran for three TDs on rambles of 40, 23 and 38 yards. Bo Stuart scored on an 8-yard run and Trey Clevenger had two TDs on passes from Luis Gomez, of 45 and 25 yards. Romano Vargas brought in a 50-yard pass from Gomez. In the JV event, Rex Stidham had two touchdown runs of 50 and 60 yards. “Things are looking good for us,” said Rochelle coach Tommy Meredith. “I was really proud of our team’s performance, especially the freshmen.
