Antonio Zapata, 97, of Brady, died Saturday, Aug. 30, in Eden. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Father Colm Mulligan officiating. Burial followed in the Rest Haven Cemetery, under the direction of Heritage Funeral Homes. He was born June 13, 1906, in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, to Feliz and Thomasa Zapata. He married Romana Garcia in Brady in 1933. He was a pipeline construction worker and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Brady. Survivors include six daughters, Ester Ortega of Brady, Juana Munoz of Fredericksburg, Victoria Barrien-tes of Seminole, Irene Solis of Brady, Sofia Solis of San Angelo and Rita Escamilla of Eden; two sons, Rosendo Zapata and Raymond Zapata, both of Brady; four sisters, Paula Dominguez of Austin, Teodula Robles of San Antonio, Ramona Delacerda of Austin and Cecilia Chavez of San Antonio. He is also survived by a brother, Jose Zapata of Slaton; 48 grandchildren; 124 great-grandchildren; and 42 great-great-grandchildren. His parents; his wife, Romana Zapata; a number of brothers; and a sister preceded him in death.
