As West Texas Rehabilitation Center celebrates its 50th anniversary of service to children and adults with disabilities, several local ranchers are carrying on their own tradition’participating in Rehab’s 44th Annual Round-Up for Rehab. Heading up the McCulloch County Round-Up program are David and Mary Holubec and Jim and Cynthia Quinn. Joining them in seeking donations of livestock and cash is Red Steagall, well-known cowboy singer/poet/rancher, who is this year’s honorary chairman for Round-Up for Rehab. Others with key roles in the 2003 program are general chairmen Mike Alexander and Randy Carson of Abilene, Jody Frey of San Angelo and Bob Helmers of Christoval. The message being delivered by all of these volunteers is important’and simple: help the Rehab meet the outpatient rehabilitation needs of all who turn to the Center for assistance in overcoming the disabling effects of illness or injury. Ways ranchers can help include: ‘ Donating livestock’cattle, sheep, goats or horses’to be sold at one of the special auctions this fall ‘ Making a cash gift to Rehab if this is the wrong time of year to cut out an animal to donate ‘ Joining the bidding on livestock or novelty items at one of the special sales ‘ Notifying Rehab or a local chairman now of an intent to have an auction house cut a check to Rehab for one or more animals sold later in the year. Though the first sale is still more than a month away, five corporate friends of Rehab have stepped forward to sponsor this unique fund-raiser. They include Federal Land Bank Association, First Ag Credit, Patterson-UTI Energy, Wrangler and Strongpoint/Pied Piper Pet & Wildlife. “The commitment of local volunteers, the involvement of Red Steagall and the early support of five highly-respected businesses ensures that this year’s Round-Up for Rehab will get off to a great start,” said WTRC President Woody Gilliland. “All of these friends typify the dedication and special effort that have sustained Rehab for 50 years’and they’re the reason this organization can look to the future with confidence and pride.” For more information about the Rehab Center and Round-Up sale dates or arrangements for hauling donated animals, call a local chairman or WTRC-Abilene at 325-793-3507; WTRC-San Angelo at 325-223-6300; or WTRC-Ozona at 325-392-9872.
