Thad A. Russell, 69, of Andrews, died Thursday, July 24 at a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews, the Rev. Ted Short, officiating. Burial was held at 6 p.m. Monday at Holt Cemetery, under the direction of Leatherwood Memorial Chapels. Born Nov. 10, 1933, in Hawley, he served in the U.S. Navy. He married Shirley Gober on Nov. 4, 1965, in Abilene. They moved to Andrews in 1980 from Las Vegas, Nev. Mr. Russell was very proud of being a recovering alcoholic since 1963. He enjoyed working with AA and helping others. He was the case manager for MHMR in Andrews for many years. He also loved to travel and play with his computer. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; three sons, Gary Maxwell of Olton, Rodney Maxwell of Azle and Randy Russell of Dallas; a daughter, Debbie Noneman of The Colony; a brother, Jack Russell of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Dean of Ballinger, Sue Harding of San Angelo and Kathy Smith of Brady; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
