McCulloch County fire departments were kept busy Monday evening fighting two separate grass fires. The first fire, caused by a lightning strike on FM 2822, burned approximately five acres before personnel from Rochelle, Placid and Brady fire departments contained the blaze. A second fire was dispatched in the Lohn area off CR 152 shortly before dark. The fire, caused by fireworks, burned approximately 25 acres and threatened two structures. Fire crews from Lohn, Melvin, Brady and Rochelle responded. The continuing dry conditions have local fire departments on high alert as pastures and ranchland becomes increasingly parched.
