Betty Waldon, 73, of Pontotoc, died Thursday, July 24. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 26 at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel, Dennis Hamilton, minister of the Mason Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in Pontotoc Cemetery. She was born Jan. 17, 1930, in Pontotoc, the only child of Floyd and Willie Belle Capps McLeod. She married Lewis Waldon in 1947, and they lived together for 53 years until his death in May 2000. Mrs. Waldon was well-known in the Pontotoc community. She was a member of the Church of Christ and she served as the postmaster of the Pontotoc Post Office for 33 years. For the past three years she operated B.J.’s Restaurant in Ponotoc. She was a member of the quilting club, the Pontotoc Cemetery Association, the Monday afternoon scrabble club and wrote a “Pontotoc News” column for the Mason County News. Survivors include a daughter, Tammye Shipp and her husband, Randy, of Lometa; three grandchildren, Jacy Pimm and Randy Roemer, Stephanie Watson and her husband, Jim, and Coby Pimm; four great-grandchildren, Heron Roemer, Kolton Bankston, Kaylee Watson and Aaron Pimm. Pallbearers were Frosty Miller, Charlie McLeod, Dave Blevens, T.J. Webster, Bill Willis, Marc Miller, Randy Roemer, Coby Pimm, Tim Watson and Dale Scott. Honorary pallbearers were Tony Herrera, Kenneth Polk, W.J. Harlow, Dr. Merlin McAnelly, C.W. Capps, James Scott, Robert Wells and many friends of the Pontotoc community. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Pontotoc Cemetery Association.
