The decision will come down to the voters where the ordinance prohibiting smoking in certain public places is concerned. The Brady City Council will consider approving a resolution ordering a special election to be held Saturday, Sept. 13 for the purpose of submitting a proposition with a smoking ordinance in Wednesday’s 10 a.m. regularly scheduled meeting. Also proposed for the election is a proposition to authorize the city of Brady to sell the gas distribution system. As usual, appointing election officials, setting rate of pay for election officials, the maximum number of election clerks and designating an early ballot board will accompany the resolution ordering the special election. In other business, the council will consider and act on a request from Lakeland Water Supply for a water service connection from the Dodge Heights area. As the third action item on Wednesday’s agenda, the city council will consider approving the Brady Economic Development Corporation 2003-2004 fiscal year budget. Also, the city council will consider approving Michael Schaffner to complete the Brady EDC fiscal year 2002-2003 audit. As the final action item, a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign a state homeland security grant sub-recipient agreement will be considered for approval. Ordinances on Wednesday’s agenda are: ‘ The second reading of an ordinance adopting the 2003-2004 fiscal year budget; ‘ The second reading of an ordinance establishing policies and procedures regarding provisions of water and wastewater utility service outside the city limits; and ‘ The first reading of an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 356 pertaining to garbage, weeds, junk and unsanitary conditions. In an executive session, the city council will confer with an attorney regarding legal issues involving open meetings, open records, city council ethical issues, and council-staff matters under the home rule charter; and elections under the charter. The meeting will adjourn following reports from the city manager and finance officer and council comments.
