Brady ISD fills assistant superintendent vacancy

After narrowing the field down from 41 potential applicants, the Brady Independent School District Board of Trustees interviewed four candidates in a recent board meeting to assume the assistant superinten-dent’s position for BISD. Effective July 28, Steve McCarn, of San Angelo will assume the position recently vacated by Lee Coffman. According to BISD Supt. Max Gordon who was available for comment Monday morning, McCarn has been working for the Education Service Center in San Angelo as a field service agent. He’s been employed there since 2000, but prior to that he served as a school administrator in Sonora, Banquete and Ricardo ( in the Corpus Christi area). McCarn received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. His superintendent’s certification was received from Sul Ross University in Alpine. According to Gordon, McCarn will be relocating to Brady around the end of the month and will officially take the position July 28. McCarn has two adult sons, and in addition to his employment with BISD, his wife, Cindy, will be teaching third grade at Brady Elementary School. In other business addressed recently by the school board, the panel completed a budget workshop, and according to Gordon, “That was the main objective during the meeting. “Projected revenues for the coming year are expected to be around $9 million,” he said. “That estimate is basically state, federal and local revenues. That is approximately what our revenues were last year. “Primarily at this point, we’re waiting on some clarification of recent legislation to determine if there will be any changes in the projected revenue. We do anticipate another board meeting to work on the budget during the latter part of July.” As another item addressed by the school board, the district and campus improvement plans for 2002-2003 were approved. Gordon noted that the plans approved were last year’s and it was placed on the agenda because “There were some changes made in those that needed to be approved.” Additional teachers were approved for hire during the Monday night meeting and will join the BISD faculty: Neda Roberson and Mrs. McCarn, Brady Elementary School teachers; Donna Thomas, kindergarten teacher at North Ward; Gary Thomas, coach/teacher at Brady High School; Cameron Norris, coach/teacher at Brady Middle School; and Linda Thompson, teacher at BHS.
