Look up at the top of this page. That’s right, the top of this newspaper page. See the date’ It’s July 1st. Well, what do you know’ It’s New Years for the Brady Lions Club and all of the other Lions Clubs around the world. Our local officers and directors were installed at our regular meeting last Thursday by Past District Governor Joan Caldwell. Lion Joan was substituting for PDG Lion Sabino Garcia who, unfortunately, broke some ribs and his pride (but not his ‘pride of Lions’) in a recent fall, and wasn’t able to make the trip to Brady. We certainly hope he heals quickly. Here’s the new slate for the Brady Lions Club’s 2003-2004 year: (Think the word ‘Lion’ before each name, so I don’t get fined by the Tail Twister.) President ‘ Mike Barbour, 1st Vice Pres. ‘ John Roberts, 2nd Vice Pres. ‘ Bobby Williams, 3rd Vice Pres. ‘ Len Westra, Secretary ‘ Bobbie Williams, Treasurer ‘ Rick Melcer, Lion Tamer ‘ Ira Moise, Tail Twister ‘ James Long, and Directors ‘ Zac Gray, Shirley Smith, Terry Keltz, and Liz Allen. Lion James Long brought a potential new Lion to the meeting last week. His guest was Erich Norton, who happens to be a nephew of Lions Jimmy & Sherrie Hodges. Erich recently moved back to Brady from Jacksonville, Florida. He’s a 1990 graduate of Brady High School, and he’s here to start a new business, JTE Irrigation. Welcome, Erich! Attention all Brady Lions! There will not be a meeting this Thursday, July 3rd. That’s because we’ll be operating the concession stand at G. Rollie White Complex for the all-day county wide roping events. Now, I know that you haven’t seen or heard much publicity about the roping events on Thursday, but I talked to Lion Randy Richards yesterday, and he assured me that in his conversations with World Class Rodeo Vice Pres. Chris McDonald, he understands that the July 3rd activities are still on. And, there ought to be plenty of time for you to get from GRW Complex out to the lake before all the watermelon and ice cream are gone. You’ll certainly be able to get there in time for the fireworks show. Don’t forget that we’ll continue the concession stand for the bull riding on Friday, July 4th and the rodeo events on Saturday, July 5th. Come on out to GRW Complex and enjoy the west Texas atmosphere, including the delicious, delectable, mouth-watering, wonderful food and soft drink selections that the Brady Lions Club has in store for you. Before I close, I must extend the Brady Lions Club’s get well wishes to our own Lion Lynn Colville. Lion Lynn recently had heart bypass surgery, and he appears to have had some complications since. We’re all pulling for you, Lion Lynn. ‘Waldo’ misses you.
