Longtime Brady resident Ola Ermine Thornton was suprised by 30 members of five generations of her family last week at a birthday party in honor of her 95th birthday. Mrs. Thornton was married to the late Weldon B. Thornton for 70 years. The couple began their lives in Brady by moving into a one-room house with two of their children. Over the years, she has been employeed by J.C. Penney, Cates Fabrics and The Bran Stand Health Food Store. “We told her she was going to have a quiet luncheon with me at the Bed and Breakfast,” said grandson Kevin Gafford. “Little did she know we had 30 people from five generations there waiting for her to celebrate her special day. “This is the best day of my life,” Mrs. Thornton said. “I had no hopes of seeing so many of the family all together in one place ever again in my lifetime. Now I just need to make plans for the same thing again next year.” She attributed her longevity to taking care of her health and sticking to a strict regimin of food supplements, vitamins, minerals and homeopathic remedies for more than 50 years.
