Rev. Melvin L. Williams, 81, of San Saba died Tuesday, June 3 in Llano. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6 at 10 a.m. at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William P. Phillips and Rev. Billy Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at the San Saba City Cemetery. He was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Comanche County, the son of Alexander Hyle Williams and Minnie Tally. On June 23, 1941, he married OraLean Roberts in Brady. They have made their home in San Saba for the past 34 years where he was the pastor of the Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Melvin L. Williams of San Saba; a son, Michiel Ray Williams and wife, Carolyn, of Lampasas; a daughter, Joan Smith and husband, Johnny, of San Saba; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Newby of San Saba; grandchildren, Melvin Lester Williams, II and wife, Rosemary, Gina Hartman and husband, Steve, Patricia Gray, Sonja Pafford and husband, Conrad, Marshall Sutton, Eric Smith, Reagan Smith and wife, Sabrina and Michial Williams; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Gene Gray, Robbie and Amber Hartman, Jerod Anson, Tristen and Tyler Pafford, Mindy Leigh Childers and husband, Shane, Mysti Bessent, Meagan and Heather Hibler; a great-great-grandson, Brenden Childers; two brothers, Johnnie L. Williams of Brady and L.C. Williams of Bangs. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gene Williams and Donnie Williams; a grandson, Chad Smith; six brothers; and two sisters. Pallbearers will be Jackie Turner, Mike McGinn, Kenneth Lee Golding, Joe Ragsdale, Wilton Martin and Kirby Miller. The family requests that memorials be made to the Gideons International.
