Starting in July, Amateur Radio classes will be held in Brady. Amateur, or “ham,” radio is a hobby that also provides a valuable community service when emergency communications are needed. Preparing for the entry level license (technical class) will be the goal of this class. Class participants will learn basic electronics, radio theory and FCC rules and regulations governing the Amateur Radio Service. At the end of the course, participants will be given an opportunity to register to take an exam for the Federal Communications Commission amateur radio license. Any U.S. citizen of any age can participate, and even children who can read are encouraged to attend. Classes will begin on July 28. Pre-registration must be complete by July 11. The course is free, but study materials must be purchased at pre-registration time. The classes will be held Monday nights at 7:30 p.m., and the course will include eight sessions. Pre-registration forms may be picked up at Rick Melcer Associates, 104 North Blackburn Street on Brady’s Courthouse square or downloaded at www.bradyhams.org.
