The Texas Forts Trail is announcing the launch of its Trooper Program, a travel discount program for people interested in the unique frontier heritage of West Central Texas. The Trooper Program offers membership opportunities to both individuals and businesses and helps to support and promote involvement in heritage and cultural tourism throughout the Texas Forts Trail Region. Benefits of membership include discounts to selected businesses and attractions throughout the region, periodic email updates of regional activities, membership card(s), Trooper bumper sticker and a business window decal. Members will also receive a subscription to The Medallion, published bimonthly by the Texas Historical Commission. Memberships are available to individuals, chambers of commerce, events and attractions, businesses etc. Individual memberships are $30 and business membership are available for $50. The Forts Trail Region, which encompasses 29 west central counties, helps communities promote heritage tourism, revitalize local economies and foster community leadership through historic preservation. The 650-mile trail extends from west central to northern Texas and features eight historic forts and one Spanish presidio, plus numerous museums, historic settings and scenic attractions. Visitors can experience events from ‘Living History Days’ or reenactments at one of the forts, to community-wide festivals, stargazing parties, trail rides and bird watching.
