Number of upcoming events surface on Rotary Club agenda

The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, May 13 at 12 noon at the Caf’ on the Square. We had three Student Rotarians visiting the Club this week. Eileen Ruiz, the daughter of Moses and Martha Ruiz, is a member of Templo Elim and has two siblings, Moses and Jason Ruiz. She is active in the Youth Alive Bible Club, NHS, PALS, FCCLA, FTA, Interact, DECA, SPOOKS and the Brady Student Chamber of Commerce. She attended the LCRA Leadership Forum, is a volunteer for both HOSTS and Head Start and participated in Star events. In addition, she attended the Lion’s Honor Banquet, was nominated for Who’s Who Among American High School Students and received the Outstanding World Geography Student award. She also sang at the Miss Heart of Texas Pageant and performed the National Anthem on Veteran’s Day. Kelsey Bailey, the daughter of Chuck and Romona Bailey, is a member of Sunset Ridge Church of Christ. She has one sibling, Kendall Bailey. She is a member of the Brady High School Student Council, Interact, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, SPOOKS and the annual staff as well as the Famed Brady Bulldog Band and the track and basketball teams. She was voted Band Sweetheart, Most Ambitious of her class and school and is listed on the National Honor Roll. She attended the Lion’s Honor Banquet, is listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students and was recognized as the Outstanding History Student. She is a representative of her senior class, is varsity basketball co-captain and serves in the FCA fellowship committee. Matthew Fields, the son of Leston and Margaret Fields, is a member of the Valley Springs Church of Christ. He has one sister, Amanda Fields, who is in the 10th grade. As senior class valedictorian, he participates in FCCLA, NHS, FBBB (drum section leader), Academic Challenge and in a number of UIL events: computer science, computer applications, math, number sense and science. He received the Bausch & Lomb Science Award, was selected Student of the Year in math, science and computer science, was a UIL state and regional competitor and was all-region timpanist in band. President Jeanagayle Behrens informed the members that the board of directors of the Rotary Club voted to have the Top-Ten Banquet on the first Tuesday in May each year. She also reminded members of the Bike-a-thon on May 17; we put out flags on May 26 and June 14; and the Boat Races are May 31-June 1; and the end-of-year Rotary party is June 3. Program chairman Brian Wiggins gave a resum’ of the Brady Clergy Association. This is a Christian fellowship of the ministers of different churches. The association tries to help people in need in emergency situations. The money raised at the Thanksgiving service is a big help. The $2 bill was won by Blake O’Dell for knowing that G.A. Moore has won more high school football games than any other coach in Texas. Program chairman for May 20 is Sandra Youree.
