Drama group’s spring play features favorite fairy tales

The costumes are sorted and the lines are being rehearsed for the 2003 Children’s Community Drama Group’s performance of “Fairy Tale Courtroom.” A play by Dana Proulx, the performance will be presented at Brady Elementary School on Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $2 in advance at the Brady Standard-Herald and the N Business Journal. The play takes place in current times and popular villians from favorite children’s fairy tales, the Big Bad Wolf and the Wicked Witch, are on trial for their alleged atrocities against “innocent” characters they encountered in their stories. The courtroom docket begins with the trial of BB (Big Bad) Wolf. Testifying against him are the Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, Riding Hood’s Grandmother and the Boy Who Cried Wolf. The Wolf’s only character witness is the opportunistic Badger. Mr. Wolf does his best to defend himself in this riveting courtroom drama. Second on the courtroom docket is the trial of the Wicked Witch. The savvy witch hires a hotshot defense attorney who uses many thought-provoking legal angles to convince the jury of her client’s innocence. Testifying against the witch are the Scarecrow, Dorothy, Hansel, Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, the Handsome Prince and some of the Dwarves. “Fairy Tale Courtroom” keeps the audience involved with its “surprise” ending for each trial as the audience is given the deciding vote in determining the guilt or innocence of each villain. Performing in the play are: Lacey Sawyer, first bailiff; Nathan Castro, first judge; Mackenzie Hirt, wolf; Kirby Brown, first DA; Betheny Nickels, first pig; Jordan Ledezma, second pig; J.
