Ona Thomas, 88, died Thursday, April 17 at a Midland Hospital. Graveside services were held Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park with Minister Bryan Briley officiating. She was born June 13, 1914, in San Saba County, to the late James and Addie Swails where she was raised and educated. She moved to Westbrook and Lenorah. She later met and married the late Lee C. Thomas in 1932, in Lovington, N. Mex. The couple moved to Midland in 1932. They owned and operated City Furniture and Mattress Company and later retired to Brady. They returned to Midland in their later years. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and a member of North Main Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee C. Thomas, Sr., a son, Lee C. Thomas, Jr.; three sisters, Enola Myers, Aldis Wade and Dorthea Ruple; and five brothers, Burt Swails, J.T. Swails, Damon Swails, Durwood Swails and Darrell Swails. Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Deck and husband, Don, of Midland and Jeanne Patton and husband, Dwayne, of Midland; a brother, Dayton Swails of Midland; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and a host of friends. The family requests that memorials be directed to North Main Church of Christ in Midland. Services were under the direction of Pipkin Funeral Home.
