Well we survived the first tournament of the year! And I must say it was a very good tournament. The Three Person Tournament held on April 12-13 brought out a full field of 132 players. There were 44 three person teams and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and the weather was very cooperative this year. My congratulations go out to each of you for a job well done and I hope you all had as much fun as we did! Cheryl, J.T. and I would like to thank the following people for helping us get ready for the tournament. If I omit anyone I am sorry and don’t think that we don’t know what all you did. First of all thank you to Heather at Higginbotham’s for donating paint for the men’s restroom out on the course. Cheryl, Jamye Graves, and Lynette Blankenship painted it the week before the tournament. Helpers on Thursday clean-up day were Jamye Graves, Charlie Bush, Craig Steffens, Richard Journeay, Jim Quinn, Joy Milsapp, Joe Milsapp, Bobbie Williams, Bobby Williams, L.A. Gotcher, Donald Owens, Peanut Owens, Tommy Ruiz, Lynette Blankenship and Joe Carriger. Thank you to each of you for all of us here at the course. Without your help we would not have looked so good. Ladies that helped serve and sell food were Joy Millsap, Cheryl Epley, Tiffany Nichols, Bobbie Williams, Denise Nichols, Cynthia Quinn, Jo Keese, Jamey Graves, Lynette Blankenship, Liz Rudder, Carla Landes, Dannye Calley for baking brownies, and Benito Rubio for helping serve. Thank you to Dairy Queen for donating nacho bowls, and Mae and Kae for serving drinks on the course. Thank you to Joe Carriger, Ira Moise and Bobbie Williams for being spotters on the Hole-In-One hole. Unfortunately no hole-in-ones were scored. As you probably already know by now if you are a golfer, J.T. top dressed the greens after the tournament. We were closed during that time! Helpers in that task were Joe Carriger, Joy and Joe Millsap, Leroy Keese, Jamye Graves, Craig Steffens, Donald Owens, J.T., and Cheryl. Thank you to all of you once again! It was hard work but we all know what the end results will be. The Thursday Hully-Gully on April 17th brought out 29 players in spite of the rough greens. And scores were very close. There were five five-person teams and one four-person team playing and scores were three 27s and three 29s. Needless to say it was a scorecard play off and the winning teams had identical score cards so they split the money for 1st and 2nd place. The winners were the Barry Jackson team which consisted of Barry, Mike Rogers, Jason Goodjoin, Lina Cruz and Kathy Powell and the Abel Ledezma team which consisted of Abel, David Hernandez, Jay Medrano, Amy Pearson and Bobbie Williams. Congratulations everyone that played! Michael Valdez won the closest to the pin. Congratulations Michael! The next scheduled Hully-Gully will be Thursday, April 24. Tee time will be 5:30 pm and you may sign up by calling the Golf Shop at 597-6010 to sign up or come in and sign up. Be sure to call by 4:30 if you plan on playing. Saturday will be the Annual Chamber of Commerce Duffer’s Tournament and will begin at 8 a.m. I understand that it has a full field signed up to play, but if you would like to purchase a ticket or tickets for the Ping I3 clubs to be raffled off you may contact a board member or the Chamber of Commerce. We now have entry forms for the Memorial tournament, so if you were waiting to receive one in the mail locally you should come by the Golf Shop to pick one up. Just remember how quickly this tournament does fill. Well that about does it for this week! Don’t forget to come out and see us and play a round of golf. Until next week’just Gwen.
