The Brady varsity Lady Bulldog softball team took on another pair of district opponents last week and struggled once again to put points on the board as they fell to both Ballinger and Comanche. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs traveled to Ballinger and despite their best efforts, could not overcome the strong defense as they managed only one run while the Bearcats racked up 15. “Offensively, I feel like we are getting stronger, but the other teams’ defenses are just not making very many mistakes,” said coach Micki Templeton. “We went to bat 18 times and only managed two hits. Their pitchers threw a good game with 29 strikes and 15 balls. We struck out seven times and had a walk. The other eight times we hit the ball into play.” The two hits were credited to Lauren Pittman and Brooke Young who each batted singles. Young was the pitcher on the night and faced 31 batters who chalked up eight hits. She threw 37 strikes and 29 balls while striking out three and walking four. In the second game of the week against Comanche, the visiting Indians made short work of the Lady Bulldogs downing the Bulldogs 16-0 in three innings. “Comanche only pitched three innings,” said the coach. “Offensively we were at bat 13 times and we only had one strikeout and two walks. The other 10 times we hit the ball into play, but their defense stepped up and shot us down. We had one girl reach base on a single mistake Comanche made. That would be the only error their team made on the day.” The two losses last week moved the varsity team’s record to 0-9 in district and 5-17 overall.
